James Leathem

James Leathem is a Principal at AFK with over 30 years’ experience in the detailed design, co-ordination and delivery of complex and iconic projects around the world.

James leads AFK’s projects teams on large and complex residential projects. He has specialist detailed design skills and site experience and has worked on major schemes developing and coordinating the project from planning through to construction. James has a collaborative working style, mentoring design teams to solving the right problems at the right time.

James previously lived and worked in Spain and Mexico and is adept at working within different cultural environments. He has led project teams, collaborating with co-architects on major schemes including the BBVA Bancomer Bank in Mexico City, a LEED Platinum building which won the RIBA International Excellence Award in 2016, as well as the T4 Terminal at Barajas Airport in Madrid, winner of the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2006.
