Arney Fender Katsalidis appoints residential expert Jonathan Clarke as Director

Arney Fender Katsalidis appoints residential specialist as new Director to drive the strategic development of the AJ100 firm

London-based international architecture and interiors practice Arney Fender Katsalidis (AFK) has appointed Jonathan Clarke, who is a leading expert and thought leader in the residential and Build to Rent sectors. Jonathan joins the practice as Director and has extensive experience in delivering residential, hotel, workplace and retail projects worldwide.

Jonathan is a significant appointment for the fast-growing design practice. He will bring a deep understanding of both architecture and interior design to the firm and will strengthen the expertise of both disciplines across the practice. Jonathan will also help to drive the further strategic development of AFK, with particular attention to their residential and interior design expertise of the firm.

Prior to his appointment, Jonathan was a Principal and Global Sector Leader at Woods Bagot, where he helped drive strategic growth and led key residential and hotel projects, such as U+I’s Assembly Buildings in Hayes, multiple developments for Pegasus Life and the award winning Minthis Hills in Cyprus. Prior to this, Jonathan was Managing Director of Universal Design Studio, the architecture and interiors design practice founded by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.  Here, Jonathan led designs of flagship stores for Stella McCartney, department stores in Korea for Lotte and exhibition designs for clients such as the V&A museum. 

Jonathan is closely involved in academia and has held positions as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton. He is a visiting critic at selected schools of architecture and design and a member of the Southwark Design Review Panel.

Since launching in London six years ago, Arney Fender Katsalidis has enjoyed significant growth, now employing over 90 people in the UK and Canada. Following several successful projects in Canada – including the award-winning interior design of Deloitte’s Montreal and Toronto Headquarters respectively, and Brookfield Place, Calgary –.Arney Fender Katsalidis opened a new studio in Toronto in 2017, which has grown to 20 staff.

The practice recently secured planning consent for a new commercial building at Lendlease’s International Quarter London and is working on100 Bishopsgate, a 40 storey tower in central London in collaboration with Allies and Morrison; a 80 storey residential tower in New York City; innovative workplaces throughout Canada; 8 hotels in Europe and a range of affordable and luxury residential schemes in the United Kingdom.
