The project involved the conversion and restoration of a collection of three existing historic buildings in Westminster, all of which were previously occupied for commercial usage, to unlock additional value for the client. One existing office building was refurbished and restored to create a modern multi-tenant development, while the two remaining buildings at Catherine Place were converted into residential high-end luxury residential apartments for lease.
The intent throughout was to retain the existing characters of the façades and the buildings themselves, and for any modifications and restorations to be sympathetic enough to maintain the existing design language. Many of the existing interior architectural features were retained and restored to act as an an elegant backdrop to the contemporary design of each space, such as the elaborate ceiling mouldings and cornices, and decorative fireplaces. The use of timeless but contemporary patterns adds a modern sense of elegance while contrasting subtly with the historic features.
